The Sikh faith, known as Sikhism, was founded just over 500 years ago in the Punjab region of South Asia. Based on the belief in One God, the Sikh religion recognizes the equality of all human beings, and is marked by rejection of idolatry, ritualism, caste and asceticism. There are more than 25 million Sikhs around the world, which makes Sikhism the world’s fifth largest religion.
